At Northwestern Mutual - Chicago we support our financial representatives’ progress by offering areas of specialization and opportunities for leadership training. Our financial representatives are responsible for the path their careers take, and we are responsible for providing them with ample opportunities for growth.

With the firm belief that he could control the trajectory of his career. James Stinson, CFP®, CLU®, joined Northwestern Mutual in 2006. It was soon after that Northwestern Mutual – Chicago tapped him for a leadership position. 

Starting as a College Unit Director in 2008, Jim rose to Field Director in 2012, and Growth and Development Director in 2016. In 2017, he was asked to lead the district office in the northern suburbs. 

As Managing Director, Jim now leads a team of 50 financial professionals in Deerfield, helping them take control of their career paths while bringing full-picture financial planning to individuals, families and businesses.

While Jim sought a path that would allow him to lead a district, at the same time, he built a successful financial planning practice. He earned both the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification and the Chartered Life Underwriter® designation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana. 

He has received numerous company awards for his dedication to comprehensive financial planning.  He achieved the NAIFA Quality Award[i] which recognizes professional excellence, service to the industry and a commitment to ethical conduct.

In leading others, he serves on the Advisory Board as well as an Instructor of Northwestern University School of Professional Studies CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ program. He is a past president of the Northwestern Mutual-Chicago Financial Representative Association. 

Giving back to the community, he serves on the Auxiliary Board of Reading In Motion and supports the Northwestern Mutual – Chicago Childhood Cancer Program.
